INFORMATION WANTED:

DAISY HAMPSON. We have been asked about a lady motorist named Miss Daisy Hampson who, we are told, lived at 'Hillside' in Gateacre in the early 20th century. She was nationally known for her racing and touring using a Lanchester in 1903, a Mercedes in 1905/6, and a series of Rolls-Royce Silver Ghosts from 1913 onwards. Does anyone have any information about her, or about her family?

LEE PARK ESTATE.
We have received an email from John M Jackson, whose hobby is painting pictures of unusual architectural structures. While visiting Liverpool recently, he came across what he calls the Lee Park Avenue Obelisk, on the corner of Belle Vale Road opposite the park. He is looking for a photograph of the concrete structure - originally an 'entrance feature' of the Lee Park housing estate - showing what it looked like when first installed in the 1950s.

Left: John Jackson's colourful version of the 'Lee Park Avenue Obelisk'. A present-day photo of the real thing can be seen in the bottom right-hand corner.

COMMITTEE NEWS
We are sorry to say that our Hon.Secretary, Bill Blundell, has been forced to stand down as a result of ill-health. Bill lives near Wrexham, but his 'roots' are in Gateacre. Our thanks go to him for his many months of service to the Society, involving long-distance commuting to our meetings. We also send him our best wishes for a speedy recovery.
