Two of the country estates on Woolton Hill in Victorian times were Lower Lee and Beaconsfield. The first was the home of Chapple Gill, a prosperous cotton broker, and his family. The second grand mansion was, from 1867 to 1907, occupied by Daniel James, a merchant with business interests in America.
Unfortunately neither of the houses now exists - but details of the lives of these families can be traced through documents and pictures. The tale reveals more than a hint of scandal!
ALL ARE WELCOME to attend.
Admission free of charge
(Donations invited)
