The original plans for the centre show that Liverpool Council began the planning process in 1970. The centre opened in 1973 by Ken Dodd. The local residents whom had been serviced by mobile vans for groceries due to lack of actual shops were very pleased with the development, and was once so busy you could not move!
The first centre manager was John Mannion, followed by his assistant Tony Harrison from 1989 to 2007.
In 2013, Belle Vale Shopping Centre celebrated its 40th anniversary with a permanent feature wall unveiled by Ken Dodd detailing the social history of the area.
